Introduction

Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF)

Liquidynamics has brought together a wide range of products and services to provide a complete range of solutions for handling, storing and testing DEF fluid. Please visit our website for additional background information along with specifications and technical data on Diesel Exhaust Fluid and best handling practices.

Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is a mixture of 32.5% high purity Urea diluted in de-ionized water for use in Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems. This solution is stored aboard diesel engine vehicles and injected into the exhaust systems’ Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system, initiating a chemical reaction converting the pollutant, nitrous oxide (NOx), into harmless nitrogen and water.

Starting in January 2010, diesel trucks will have DEF storage tanks on board ranging in size from 16 to 30 gallons. Additionally, in 2012, “off road” equipment powered by diesel engines will be supplied with SCR systems requiring DEF. Then, in 2014, all diesel engines greater than 75 HP will have SCR systems.

Liquidynamics offers a wide range of DEF handling equipment that conform to ISO 22241 specifications. Both, “open” and “closed systems are offered and are available in electric, air or hand operated versions. These systems are designed to fit 55 gallon drums, 275 and 330 gallon IBC Totes as well as bulk storage and transfer systems.
